In life, figuring out who you can trust can be tricky. Jenna knew this all too well. After several unhappy relationships and enough trouble with people she’d considered friends, she decided to make a change. She wanted to connect healthily with people who supported her and didn’t try to drag her down.
Jenna knew just where to start. She reached out to the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities for help. With their assistance, Jenna got to work on healing, determined to break free from past struggles. Her parents, who she lives with, fully supported her in her journey.
Over several years, Jenna built resilience. She made new friends who treated her well and branched out into her local community. With her newfound strength, Jenna found the courage to try activities she had once found overwhelming. She built healthy boundaries in her relationships and even got her driver’s license and her own car.
With her new place in her community, Jenna feels happier than ever. Her job brings her fulfillment, and she works daily to advocate for herself, a testament to her strength and resilience. What’s next for Jenna? Now that she’s established her happiness, Jenna works every day towards becoming her own guardian and asserting her independence. The future looks bright for Jenna, and APSI stands with her every step of the way.
For Jenna's great leaps in advocacy, she was awarded the TJ Jackson Forever Friends Award. This award is given to APSI clients that have shown personal growth/increased independence.
